Reddit calls out Microsoft for stealing fan art promoting PUBG and Xbox

Reddit calls out Microsoft for stealing fan art promoting PUBG and Xbox

The first PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds update since the game's official PC launch on December 20 is now live with more bug fixes and an apology from the developer over game performance.

"Resolving the intermittent lag and character position readjustment issues are still one of our top priorities, and we are continuing to work on analyzing and fixing any remaining issues every day", said the blog post.

After being teased for months, PUBG was finally released as a console title on December 12th for the Xbox One, along with breaking out of Early Acess for PC users on December 20th.

A few Reddit users said that it might just be a coincidence but, considering the fact that Macsterr had uploaded concept ad on 1st November, nearly a month prior to the Microsoft ad, it's highly unlikely that it was a coincidence.

Many Reddit users agree that Microsoft ripped off his idea for their ad although others say that legally, he has no claim to the concept.

The concept ad, included below, is a clever design that shows a player character from the game walking through a wheat field contained within the console. Even so, a company the size of Microsoft needs to be careful where it's stepping, as it may just encourage fan to stop indulging in fan art, which in itself is a primary source of free marketing in the form of word-of-mouth. Macsterr's ad proved fairly popular on Reddit, and it's possible Microsoft's marketing team saw his concept, as it has released an ad that looks strikingly similar.

With a company as big as Microsoft, mistakes slip through the cracks. The artwork is pretty much the same and the original artist was never credited.

Those who've been having problems with the PUBG Xbox One authentication issues should be seeing a fix soon.

Major Nelson, an employee associated with Microsoft, posted a statement to the outraged subreddit. In the meantime, our official channels have pulled down the asset in question. There is nothing wrong with this image, except the fact that it has been copied from a concept art which was uploaded on Reddit by the user Macsterr. "I'll follow up with the OP /u/macsterr/ once I get more details". The post calling out Microsoft, on the other hand, received 90000 views - making it clear that the community is upset with this decision by Microsoft.
