Unranked Washington Upsets No. 2 Kansas, 74-65

View a gallery of images from Wednesday night's matchup between the Jayhawks and Huskies at Sprint Center. Their Kansas City home was also the site of an Elite Eight loss to OR in last year's NCAA Tournament.

The Musketeers (8-1) had 13-point victories over No. 16 Baylor and No. 11 Cincinnati in a span of four days last week, and overcame a sluggish start to win its third straight. The Jayhawks' mark was below their season average of 0.628, while the Orange's was below their season average of 0.491.

Half-court execution will be critical when a pair of the nation's slowest-paced teams face off. CT ranks 316th in possessions per game (66.4) and Syracuse is 281st (67.6) since the 2016-17 season.

The second-ranked Jayhawks were unable to beat the zone Wednesday and lost for the first time.

The Jayhawks converted on a season low five three-pointers and went just 5-of-20 (25 percent) from beyond the arc.

The Jayhawks intentions were clear from the tip as they dominated in the paint in the early minutes, a sign of things to come for the remainder of the game.

While it remains to be seen what more he has in store for the rest of the 2017-18 season, Graham can rest easy knowing he already has made his mark on the KU record books.

Syracuse ranks 121st in three pointers attempted per game (22.4) while CT ranks 268th in three pointers allowed per game (23.4). Kansas' four free throws, all from Vick, were also the fewest by the team this season. The Jayhawks have games against Arizona State, Nebraska, Omaha and Stanford before starting Big 12 play on December 29th.

Washington kept the pressure on early in the second half, pushing its lead to 52-44 with 12:10 left in the game, before the Jayhawks finally turned up the defensive intensity. The two losses thus far for the Huskies this season came to Providence and Virginia Tech.

The Huskies barely escaped the Monmouth Hawks in their last game, 84-81.

The top scorer for the Washington Huskies has been Jaylen Nowell. Noah Dickerson added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the 7-2 Huskies, who held Devonte Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk to a combined eight points on 4-for-20 shooting.

The Kansas Jayhawks are one of the top scoring teams in the country, and one of the toughest teams to beat. Washington is going to be okay out of the Pac-12, but playing this game in Kansas City is bad news for the Huskies.

During the game's first official timeout, KU presented Sprint Center general manager Brenda Tinnen with a framed No. 10 Kansas jersey to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the venue.
