Waffle House customer cooks own meal while employee sleeps

Bowen said the restaurant appeared to be deserted, with no other customers - or employees - inside.

What would you do if you went into a restaurant and found the staff was sleeping?

Stumbling upon a sleeping employee who "didn't wake up the entire time" Bowen was in the restaurant, the 36-year-old funnyman whipped himself up a "double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles", he told WTHR.

"I walked back outside to look for employees", Bowen told WIS.

With hunger calling out to him and no bacon sizzling on the well-worn Waffle House grill, Bowen said he waited for 10 minutes at the register. "When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled out".

Alex Bowen tells WIS-TV he couldn't sleep, was hungry and slightly drunk, when he went to the restaurant early Thursday. "I wouldn't normally have done that".

Don't worry, Bowen posted a photo a few hours later of him returning to the Waffle House to pay for his meal.

He said one of the employees says the store isn't very happy with his exploits.

When asked if he paid, Bowen said no, and explained why he chose not to leave any money.

The former medical sergeant with the U.S. Army is a pretty popular guy, with 909 Facebook friends, so word and shares of his Waffle House visit spread rapidly.

"I ain't paying if I'm cooking my own (stuff) lol.waffle house gonna have to take the L on that one". Said Bowen, "But if not, I'd know what to do". Rather they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates.
