Actor pledges to donate salary from Woody Allen film

Awards season darling Timothée Chalamet has joined the increasing tide of dissent against Woody Allen by stating that he will donate his fee from working with the director to the Time's Up campaign.

"I confess that at the time I worked for Woody Allen I was a naive young actress", Sorvino wrote in. 'Not because I'm trying to back away from it.

He subsequently donated his entire salary to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).

Dylan Farrow, Allen's daughter with Mia Farrow, has accused him of sexually abusing her as a child.

The accusations resurfaced when Farrow wrote an open letter in 2014 restating them, and again in 2016 when Allen's son Ronan Farrow - now a journalist - wrote extensively about the situation.

Other stars - including Oscar victor Mira Sorvino and Greta Gerwig - have spoken about their regret at having previously worked with Allen. Farrow questioned why Mr. Allen had been spared similar scrutiny of his past actions.

But in the weeks since her op-ed was published, there has been a sea change in the industry response to Allen.

On Instagram, she wrote: "The day after the Weinstein accusation broke in full force I was shooting a day of work on Woody Allen's latest movie in NY". She was largely inspired to take that stance after reading pieces by Dylan Farrow. "To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer - not because I'm trying to back away from it", she said. "But this does not excuse my turning a blind eye to your story simply because I wanted desperately for it not to be so". 'I can only speak for myself and what I've come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film.

Gerwig portrayed the character Sally in Allen's To Rome With Love, which included performances by Penelope Cruz, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg.

And just a month before that, actor Griffin Newman, who has a small role in Allen's 2017 film Wonder Wheel, announced that he was donating his salary to RAINN.

Teefey replied through the account of her Kicked To The Curb productions company: "Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn't want to".

Allen has also been denounced by several high profile stars who are now championing Time's Up. He gave me one of my first significant roles in film for which I have always been grateful, it was one day in my hometown - easy. I'm not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations.
