Alison Brie awkwardly defends brother-in-law James Franco on Sag red carpet

Actor Alison Brie was asked about the sexual harassment allegations leveled against her brother-in-law James Franco at the SAG Awards on Sunday night, and responded by defending the Disaster Artist director and star. She stood in the precarious position of potentially upsetting many people, and Brie was also following Scarlett Johannson's speech at the Women's March, where she called out Franco's apparent hypocrisy for wearing a Times Up pin at the Globes and said that she'd like that pin back. Ansari was the only contender in his category to skip the awards show in Los Angeles, a major industry event where campaigning for the Oscars is common.

A total of five women went on record accusing the actor of sexually inappropriate and exploitative behaviour, four of which are Franco's former acting students.

A day later, he appeared on NBC's "Late Night With Seth Meyers".

Speaking to The Late Show's Stephen Colbert, Franco, 39, said the Twitter accusations were "not accurate" but added, "I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice, because they didn't have a voice for so long".

Meanwhile, the actor's attorney, Michael Plonsker, has denied his accusers' claims in The Los Angeles Times.

During their discussion, he painted himself as a martyr of the Me Too movement and said he would "take a knock" - in the form of what he characterizes as false allegations against him - because he believes in the cause. Gary Oldman won the award for his role as Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour". They both co-starred in Disaster Artist.

James did not walk the red carpet at the SAG Awards, however the live broadcast of the revealed him sitting in the audience.

One person who couldn't face the music? News' Giuliana Rancic to describe how the allegations had impacted her family, the actress said: "Not everything that has been reported is fully accurate, so I think we're waiting to get all the information".
