Budget session 2018: PM requests parties to pass triple talaq bill

Speaking on Budget 2018 that will be presented on February 1, Modi said that it will strengthen the economy of India.

While the government intends to pass the Triple Talaq bill, the Opposition plans to counter the government on issues such as rape, communal violence and remarks on the Constitution.

The Opposition has also asked the to allow a discussion on these issues during the session.

Leaders of the opposition parties are likely to meet on Monday to push for unity and to discuss ways to together corner the government. Saying that it would discuss the Opposition's issues with the bill, the government requested their cooperation in passing the bill during the session. Parliament will be adjourned for a recess on February 9 and reassemble on March 5.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday hit out at the government for a short session of Parliament.
