Bello-Torob also lauded the government for deploying soldiers to the affected three states: Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa to maintain law and order as well as prevent possible escalation of the crisis.

Addressing newsmen at the weekend in Abuja, Lalong said he was misquoted by the media.

He pleaded: "I apologise to my brother, Governor Samuel Ortom. We are one. All of us need to join hands to promote peace and share in the pains of the people that lost their loved ones to the attacks".

The meeting, which held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was being attended by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara.

"Somebody drew my attention yesterday (Thursday) that he (Lalong) made such comments that he warned me not to implement the law and I was wondering if my colleague from Plateau State could say that; so I called him and he told me he did not say it", Ortom said.

"But later, when I watched it on Channels Television, he castigated me beyond what I thought a colleague of mine should, (but) I have forgiven him".

Shehu however said he had not been briefed on the issues to be discussed at the meeting.

President Muhammadu Buhari has provided reasons why Fulani herdsmen and farmers clash continuously in the country.

"We call on the state government in particular to caution its officials on unguarded utterances during and after conflicts, as it has come to CAN's notice that the SSG has propounded a new firearms narratives which seeks to justify the use of firearms by Fulani in the country", he said.
