Cardinals to request interview with Mike Munchak for head coaching vacancy

Cardinals to request interview with Mike Munchak for head coaching vacancy

Those second interviews can be conducted from January 22-28.

One of the more sought after names as the coaching carousel continues to turn is Eagles quarterback John DeFilippo, who will be interviewed a second time by the Arizona Cardinals, according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Because Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks ad Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak are out of the playoffs, they are free to interview with the Cardinals for the second time.

The Cardinals first asked permission to speak to Munchak in early January.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was also in the conversation, but Rapoport reported Monday that he was lined up to accept the New York Giants' head coaching job. Teams are not allowed to block head coaching interview requests. One coach that seems destined to end up somewhere else is offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

Munchak became the Steelers offensive line coach back in 2014 after a failed stint as the Tennessee Titans head coach. He was also an offensive assistant and quality control coach for the same franchise from 1994-96 when it was in Houston.

As for DeFilippo, 39, he's spent 11 seasons as an National Football League coach, eight of which have been as a quarterbacks coach.

The Cardinals are the only team that have reportedly been interested in Munchak. However, they do have two candidates that they like enough that they're going to interview them again.
