Colder with accumulating snow tonight

A shower is possible late Thursday, but snow is possible at night as temperatures take a tumble into the 30s.

Happy Monday! After a gloomy and soggy weekend, we should see plenty of sunshine today!

A Met Office spokesman said Thursday night will see temperatures drop to -5 or -6, across the majority of the United Kingdom and could drop to as low as -9 in parts of Scotland.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with a few light snow showers, especially into the morning hours. The influx of polar air early this week will not be particularly barbaric, but readings are expected to stay below freezing through Tuesday.

As we wake up Monday, we'll see more cloud cover rolling into town. This is ahead of our next system that slides in Monday afternoon.

Around an inch by Midnight, with snow continuing overnight. Expect another day of highs struggling to get out of the low and mid 30s. Highs will range from 30s to the north, to the 40s and low 50s south where spots see more sunshine longer. We will though be keeping an eye on the transition between rain and snow on Wednesday. Light rain and snow will continue to stick around for valley locations with accumulating snow once again expected in the mountains. With the return of clearer conditions by daybreak on Monday, temperatures will turn chilly once again with morning temperatures in the teens and 20s.

Programming note: Stay tuned for a detailed new write-up on the snow potential by midday.

Other forecasters told how the weather would change during the week - with rain starting to fall on Friday in other parts of the UK. Expect afternoon high temperatures in the lower to middle 30s.
