Dark Souls PC rekindled with 4K remaster

Dark Souls PC rekindled with 4K remaster

Dark Souls Remastered is coming for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 25.

After many rumors, we can finally confirm that Dark Souls is being remastered for the Nintendo Switch. Dark Souls isn't a ridiculously hard game, but it's challenging enough with a steep learning curve that you'll need time to get used to.

In GameSpot's original Dark Souls review Kevin VanOrd awarded it a 9.5/10, describing it as "riveting".

According to reports, Dark Souls Remastered for PC will be available with 50% discount for those who own Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition. The first in the series of multi-platform Souls games still stands as a hallmark of From Software's stellar design - something the studio only perfected heading up to Dark Souls 3. That doesn't mean a change in game engine is out of the question, but this will look pretty similar to the version of Dark Souls we already know. Here's the official product page if you want to try and import it.

It's easy to get disappointed that Nintendo didn't reveal a bunch of new games during this latest Direct, but I wouldn't freak out and start worrying that Nintendo is running out of ideas. This edition offered all of the DLC for Dark Souls II, along with enhanced visuals for modern consoles. The Switch and the Xbox One have been cross-platform buddies for a year now, but with the difference in frame rate, it'd simply be unfair to have that kind of support for players on either platform.

This announcement comes as a great treat for the Souls series. But the key here - and this is big for every company working on Switch ports - is that Switch is growing the audience for gaming instead of just drawing attention away from PS4, Xbox One, or PC.

The Nintendo Switch had an incredible 2018, and this is another instance where Nintendo has done really well to bring a well renowned third party franchise to the hybrid console. The game's world is so memorable, and its action so thrilling, that it might invade your thoughts even when you aren't playing, silently urging you to escape the real world and return to this far more treacherous one.
