Detroit Motor Show: 2019 Hyundai Veloster revealed

Detroit Motor Show: 2019 Hyundai Veloster revealed

Hyundai will once again give buyers the choice of two different engines for the front-drive sports coupe.

The 2019 Veloster and Veloster Turbo hit the market in the second quarter of 2018.

Power for the Veloster N is coming from Hyundai's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which is twisting out 260 pound-feet of torque on top of the 275 horsepower figure.

The new Veloster Turbo also gets a handling update, with torque vectoring to "improve dynamic cornering during more enthusiastic driving".

Set to arrive in Australia later this year, the second-gen Veloster will be offered in two grades: the entry-level "Veloster", which ditches the original's flaccid 1.6-litre petrol four for a 110kW/180Nm atmo 2.0-litre, and the "SR Turbo" that employs a 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Veloster is a 1.4 and 1.6-liter engine that will be mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.

We're hoping for more news on this later today. Hyundai says the Veloster Turbo is equipped with Active Sound Design, which Hyundai says will enhance the engine and exhaust note.

As for pricing, Hyundai expects the new Veloster to cost around the same as the current model, meaning a possible starting price just under $30K.

As far as safety systems go, the Veloster benefits from the latest technologies and has a comprehensive suite of electronic driver aids and crash avoidance features available, including automated emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alerts. The centre console is topped by a floating tablet screen with a standard 7.0-inch colour touchscreen (or a larger 8.0-inch version in SR models) that can feature a huge array of connectivity functions such as sat nav, digital radio, smartphone mirroring for Apple and Android devices and a reverse camera.

Watch for more details to come in the next couple of days.
