Donald Trump insists he is 'not racist' in wake of derogatory comments

He was not even expressing the classist logic of "merit-based" immigration: even the best educated and hardest working Africans and Haitians are, for Trump, less desirable than any Norwegian. Instead, because the President of the United States, who seems determined to insult Haitians every chance he gets, has said that Haiti-along with "Africa"-is a sh*thole, I must also lament yet another insult to our dignity".

A confidant of Trump's told The Associated Press that the president spent Thursday evening calling friends and outside advisers to judge their reaction to his remarks.

"I am the least racist person you will ever interview", Trump told reporters gathered at the private club.

President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over efforts of some USA lawmakers to protect immigrants from Haiti and African countries, asking why America should accept citizens from "s***thole" countries, triggering protests.

Yet Trump himself tweeted Friday: "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

Here's how the world reacted to Mr Trump's comments. Apparently, the President's remarks came out of a discussion about Temporary Protected Status, during which he is reported to have said "Why do we need more Haitians?"

Republican leaders were largely silent, though House Speaker Paul Ryan said the vulgar language was "very unfortunate, unhelpful".

On North Korea, Trump said "we have great talks going on" and additional meetings are scheduled.

About two dozen people, mostly supporters of the president, were gathered at the western end of the Southern Boulevard Bridge when Trump returned to Mar-a-Lago about 2:30 p.m.

More news: Donald Trump: I am not a racist

Trump on Thursday rejected a pitch from a bipartisan team of senators on a compromise immigration deal to protect DACA participants while increasing border security.

Trump tweeted earlier Sunday that the program is "probably dead" and blamed Democrats.

Trump's father, Fred, developed Alzheimer's in his 80s, a fact that has prompted calls for the president to undergo a significant neurological exam.

But Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting between the lawmakers, said that "shithole" was the "exact word used by the President, not just once but repeatedly".

It was unclear now how a deal might emerge, though both sides insist the clock is ticking. That's because 60 votes will be needed to avoid a filibuster and Republicans have a narrow 51-49 majority. Some Democrats have threatened to withhold support unless an immigration pact is forged. None of whom, apparently in the eyes of the White House, are people who trace their ancestry to Africa, Haiti or El Salvador, which was also part of the immigration policy discussion.

"He said: 'Put me down for wanting more Europeans to come to this country".

"We are also the country that the United States has invaded several times, preventing us from consistently ruling ourselves". In the 1980s, the U.S. government-claiming that Haitian pigs had swine fever-participated in the extermination of almost every native black pig, which represented some families' entire life savings. "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"

The protest tagged: "Rally against Trump" at Time Square on Monday, would commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr.

In recent weeks the Trump administration has been withdrawing Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from a number of nationalities now living in the country. Many African Americans feel the president works directly against people of their racial group, and many feel like they have less of a voice in what happens in America now.
