Donald Trump urges Theresa May to get tough in Brexit talks

Donald Trump urges Theresa May to get tough in Brexit talks

Cabinet Office minister David Lidington urged the Conservatives to "come together in a spirit of mutual respect".

Lidington stepped in after a series of public clashes over Brexit, the latest of which saw the former Northern Ireland secretary Theresa Villiers warn that Britain risked remaining in the European Union "in all but name".

The trades with America "very unfairly", President said in an interview, warning that his many problems with Brussels "may morph into something very big".

And in the other, it says the battle to succeed Theresa May "erupted into fresh acrimony" as top Tories traded blows on whether Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson had leaked information to distract from a story about an extra-marital "flirtation". Obama gave Harry a rare interview a year ago that was broadcast on the BBC.

Trump's remarks are also likely to damage an already rocky relationship between the two leaders, just days after the pair sought to present a unified front at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump also says his administration might not withdraw from the 2015 Paris climate accord if terms more favourable to the United States are reached, in part because he likes French President Emmanuel Macron, a driving force behind implementing the accord.

He told the Sunday Express: "The Prime Minister can not govern with Philip Hammond sniping from the sidelines".

David Lidington said a new registration scheme for EU nationals coming to the United Kingdom and the end of the supremacy of the European Court of Justice were examples of the Government delivering "what the people voted for".

A Department for Exiting the European Union spokesman said the report would be "considered carefully".

"We will have, from next year, a registration system that we've not had before for European Union nationals coming to this country...those are big, big differences".

Earlier today Mr Rees-Mogg rubbished the vague promise of a two year Brexit transition as "more like a plank than a bridge" to leaving the EU. "The Chancellor needs to have the Prime Minister's back and he doesn't".

Trump also said during the interview that he didn't know if he has been invited to attend the wedding this spring of Prince Harry and USA actress Meghan Markle.

And fellow MP Heidi Allen declared the party was "letting this country down" as she demanded the PM "get a grip" on domestic policies.

"Then what will be the point of voting for the party that's implemented it". Because we have to be radical.
