Facebook to show more posts from Family & Friends and less from Businesses

Facebook's new news feed algorithm will therefore prioritize posts from family and friends, and users will begin to see less posts from businesses. It's a point Zuckerberg acknowledged in his post, writing that "video and other public content have exploded on Facebook in the past couple of years".

Facebook shares fell 5.4% as trading opened on Friday, January 12, after the changes were announced on Thursday. Public posts from companies will become less visible in favour of content published by users' friends, family and groups, and posts that encourage "conversation" and "debate".

"This will be one of the more important updates that we have made". "But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable", he wrote.

Zuck, however, sees the change as a re-adjustment toward what Facebook was meant to do all along: connect people.
