Gamer, 28, kills mom after blaming her for broken headset, police say

Ceres officers are investigating a homicide after officials say a man shot and killed his mother in their home.

Investigators with the Ceres Police Department said Matthew Nicholson, 28, was alone in his room late Thursday when he started yelling angrily after losing a video game. The 68-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where she later died.

Matthew Nicholson, 28, was playing video games in the bedroom of his Ceres, Calif., home on Wednesday night when an argument broke out with his mother Lydia Nicholson. When his mother went to check on him, he began to argue with her and ended up breaking the headset to his video game, police said.

Nicholson grabbed a handgun from inside home and fired two rounds into a wall before turning the gun on his mother and shooting her in the head.
