Google pays tribute to Fearless Nadia with doodle on birth anniversary

In 1993, Nadia's great-grandnephew, Riyad Vinci Wadia, made a documentary of her life and films, called Fearless: The Hunterwali Story.

And the credit for this high-voltage action goes to stuntpersons.

Google Doodle on Monday honoured Marry Ann Evans better known as "Fearless Nadia" on her 110th birth anniversary. Nadia performing stuns wearing leather shorts, a mask, cape had stunned everyone.

The doodle shows the sketch of Nadia in a fearless attitude with a hat on, her one hand on the hat and the other on her waist. She is most remembered for her titular role in Hunterwali in 1935 and was also one of the earliest female leads in Hindi cinema.

Nadia was born in Perth, Australia in 1908 and made her way to India at the age of five. As she grew up, she became proficient in various skills such as horseback riding, fishing, shooting, gymnastics, tap dancing, ballet and more.

The troupe performed for British soldiers, Indian royalty, and even for the mass audiences. She was cast in cameos before striking upon the winning film formula: Fearless Nadia, action heroine. She changed her name to Nadia after an American fortune teller suggested her to do so for her successful career. They introduced her to Hindi films and she found roles in Desh Deepak and Noor-e-Yaman before getting her big break in Hunterwali. She later went on to do number of movies doing all her stunts by herself.

Nadia married Homi Wadia in 1961. Reportedly, Kangana Ranaut's character "Jaanbaaz Miss Julia" in Vishal Bharadwaj film was majorly based on Nadia.
