This year we saw a total of eleven nominations between the likes of "Get Out", "The Shape of Water", and "Stranger Things" for numerous categories including best actor, best series, best actress, best drama, and uh. best comedy.

Guillermo del Toro took home the Golden Globe for best director of a motion picture at Sunday's 75th annual awards show.

"Merci beaucoup", Desplat begun his acceptance speech, going on to give special shoutout to Water director Guillermo Del Toro. "For 25 years I have hand-crafted odd little tales made with emotion, color, light, and shadow... and in three precise instances, these fables have saved my life", he said, referring to "The Devil's Backbone", "Pan's Labyrinth," and now "The Shape of Water". He won for his film The Shape of Water. "Once with The Devils Backbone and then with Pans Labyrinth and now with The Shape of Water".

"The important thing about fables and fairy tales, they were created to address things that you cannot address as easily... as you can with parable", del Toro said.

The filmmaker beat out all male nominees, which included Martin McDonagh for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, ' Christopher Nolan for "Dunkirk", Ridley Scott for "All the Money in the World", and Steven Spielberg for 'The Post".

"Since childhood Ive been faithful to monsters".

The presenter of the honour, actor Natalie Portman highlighted the lack of female nominees in her introduction to the category.
