James Rosen reportedly left Fox News amid sexual harassment allegations

He had worked there for 18 years and become something of a legend.

Rosen was a pillar of Fox News' Washington DC and national security coverage, at one point becoming the target of a leak investigation by the Obama administration's Department of Justice over his reporting on North Korea.

The allegations against Rosen are the latest to affect the network.

But according to a report in NPR, Rosen left amid "scrutiny of his behavior at the network".

Rosen's departure came during a period of increased scrutiny at companies around the country over the allegations of improper sexual behavior of men in positions of power.

"There was a problem with our chief executive sort of over the years, but isolated incidents", Murdoch said. He noted Ailes was gone after mere days when complaints surfaced. "That was largely political because we're conservative", Murdoch claimed.

Fox News's powerful chief and mastermind Roger Ailes was ousted from the network after host Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual-harassment lawsuit against Ailes in July 2016.

Francisco Cortes, a former Fox News executive, was also fired in 2017 after being accused of sexual assault. She and multiple other women came forward with allegations against him.

Rosen in a tweet after he left Fox said he hoped to have news about his future endeavors soon. (It was later reported to be six settlements totaling $45 million.) Fox News had been aware of complaints against O'Reilly.

NPR reported that there were three separate instances in which Rosen made "overt physical and sexual overtures" to co-workers.

In the winter following the September 2001 terrorist attacks, a female Fox News reporter joined the bureau from NY. One incident occurred as far back as the winter of 2001, when Rosen allegedly groped the breasts of a female journalist in a cab.

Another Fox News producer who covered the State Department also alleged Rosen sexually harassed her. A foreign national, she subsequently accepted a deal from Fox that enabled her to extend her stay in the U.S.in exchange for not making her complaint public, according to several of her former colleagues.

Fox News did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' requests for comment.

Last spring, according to NPR, Rosen tried to forcibly kiss a young reporter after the two had lunch together. And attempts to reach Rosen were unsuccessful. He then asked her not to tell anyone and offered her help in getting more time on Bret Baier's show. The female reporter declined to comment for this story.

Fox issued a clarification, saying in a statement, "Rupert has made it abundantly clear that he understands that there were real problems at Fox News".

Under a new top human resources executive, Fox News last summer placed a human resources employee in the bureau for the first time.

But the accusations against Rosen refocus some attention back on Fox News. She filed an internal complaint and Ailes told her she would be let go due to her performance. She was paid an undisclosed sum in a private settlement.

Weekend host Catherine Herridge also made allegations in November 2010 and filed a federal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She alleged she had been subjected to a "glass ceiling". However, the EEOC said there wasn't enough evidence to verify her claims.

Several high-profile broadcasters on the cable news channel, however, have faced sexual harassment allegations. It based its report on interviews with eight of Rosen's former colleagues.
