Janesville's Gander Outdoors to open in late May

Janesville's Gander Outdoors to open in late May

Gander Mountain died in bankruptcy early past year but its new owner, Camping World, is reopening about half of the shuttered stores as Gander Outdoors, with numerous same outdoor recreation products.

Lemonis said he was keeping about 70 to 75 of the store's 162 locations.

Camping World Holdings is adding another outdoor lifestyle brand to its growing portfolio.

Gander Outdoors will open 11 Wisconsin locations - including one in Eau Claire - by the end of May, according to the company's CEO. Lemonis read 68 US city names with an opening planned, followed by five other store locations where his company is still negotiating with landlords.

In a video posted Wednesday on Twitter, Lemonis said stores on his keepers list are starting to open now and will all be open by May.

Lemonis said the new stores will feature three distinct departments - focused on hunting and shooting, boating, and camping and active sports - run by separate businesses owned by Camping World. The Minnesota-based retail store already opened one of its rebranded locations December 14 in Lakeville.

Lemonis, who also owns Camping World, bought Gander Mountain in the spring of 2017, when Gander Mountain was in bankruptcy proceedings.

Camping World said in the SEC filing that it meant to relaunch about 55 former Gander Mountain stores in 2018 as Gander Outdoors stores.
