LawBreakers Publisher Blames PUBG for Game's Failure

LawBreakers Publisher Blames PUBG for Game's Failure

In a Q&A session with their investors, picked up by PCGN, Nexon's chief financial officer Shiro Uemura said: "we will not be accruing any other impairment loss pertaining to Lawbreakers in the future".

"Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our expectations, mainly due to the sale of LawBreakers that failed to exceed our expectations".

Uemura went on to say: "LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users".

As Eurogamer notes, Uemura discusses how LawBreakers sold below their expectations, even with a lot of optimism surrounding the game before launch. And with a peak player count less than 100 for the month of December, news of Nexon pulling out financial support of the title makes sense. The success and enormous popularity left many PlayStation fans wondering when, or if, the game would ever be available on PS4.

According to the publication site, due to the performance of LawBreakers, Nexon has noted that it suffered higher-than-planned expenses. It is a very different experience compared to Lawbreakers.

There's very little doubt that "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG) was one of the biggest games of 2017, and with its recent release for the Xbox One, the title's player base continues to expand. CEO Chang Han Kim about wanting to bring the game to all platforms is just vague statements, at best. The Xbox One port of the MMO shooter might have been controversial, but it seems the publisher and developers are already thinking about adding the PlayStation 4 to the ecosystem. "LawBreakers is another FPS attempting to break its way onto the hero shooter scene, but this time marketed towards a more hardcore audience (#skilledAF)".
