Lorde targeted in full-page ad after cancelling Israel gig

The piece criticises the 21-year-old Grammy award winning singer for joining "a global antisemitic boycott of Israel" while agreeing to perform in Russian Federation.

A full-page advertisment calling Lorde a bigot and accusing New Zealand of harboring a bias against Israel appeared on the fifth page of the Washington Post's December 31 edition.

The ad was placed by outspoken rabbi Shmuley Boteach's This World: The Values Network, and features an image of the singer superimposed over a photo of men running through rubble cradling babies.

Published on the fifth page of the 31 December issue of the newspaper by Boteach's This World: The Values Network, the ad accuses the Kiwi singer of joining "a global anti-semitic boycott of Israel" while having no problem in performing in Russian Federation.

"While Lorde claims to be concerned with human rights, she hypocritically chose to proceed with her two concerts in Putin's Russian Federation, despite his support for [Syrian president Bashar al-] Assad's genocidal regime".

Lorde cancelled the show after receiving backlash and getting what she said was an overwhelming number of calls. The 21-year-old is described as taking part in a "global anti-Semitic boycott of Israel".

The advert accuses Lorde of being influenced by New Zealand's "growing prejudice" towards the Jewish State and calling her called a hypocrite for not cancelling concerts in Russian Federation.

The decision also came after an open letter written by two New Zealand fans which stated that any such concert would indicate support for Israel's occupation of Palestine.

Prior to cancelling her shows, Lorde said on Twitter that she had been speaking with "many people about this and considering all options".

Lorde performs "Homemade Dynamite" at the MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum, in Inglewood, California, August 27, 2017.

Lorde cancelled the Tel Aviv gig, scheduled for June, on Christmas Day.

The Jewish Council of New Zealand and the Zionist Federation of New Zealand both criticized the decision and highlighted the double standards of those who support a boycott against Israel. "What is New Zealand doing exporting hatred and bigotry against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East?"
