The 5-foot-10 defender also has proven to be a threat at the other end this season, scoring five goals in all competitions - including the victor as City defeated rivals Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford last month amid a record-breaking run of 18 successive league victories.

He has featured in 22 of City's 23 Premier League games this season, guiding the defensive line to help put Pep Guardiola's side 12 points clear at the top of the table. This is a very handsome city.

"At the club I'm really enjoying my experience since the first day I got here", Otamendi told CityTV.

The defender added: "For the way I have improved, I am in a really good moment, but I can still improve".

A number of Premier League teams, including Liverpool, were holding out hope that they could acquire Fernandinho on a free transfer after the World Cup.

Otamendi has scored five goals so far this season - including the victor over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford. From the first day you work with him you learn from him. even being at home you're still learning from him.

"There's a lot of conversations about that because he knows exactly what is the best thing to do in that position so I just have to listen to him and try to do my best".

He said: "When a manager like Pep praises you it means a lot. In the end what we spent in the summer is quite similar to United, but they bought I think two or three players and we bought six or seven".
