Man resembling Pakistani minor's rape-murder suspect arrested

Man resembling Pakistani minor's rape-murder suspect arrested

At the previous hearing, the bench had restrained the Lahore High Court from hearing the case and sought the entire record of the grisly rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab.

During the hearing, the Joint-Investigation Team (JIT) led by RPO Multan Muhammad Idrees presented a report detailing inquiry into the rape and murder cases of the Kasur children. Her body was discovered five days later from a garbage pile.

The chief justice will also hear the suo motu notices of Lahore's pollution, hospital waste management and substandard law colleges.

Expressing dissatisfaction over progress in the probe into the rape-murder of the minor girl, a member of the bench remarked the investigators had zeroed in on just one angle of the case.

Mian Saqib Nisar had remarked that the whole nation is saddened over this incident. Thousands of cases of child molestation have been reported in Kasur district in recent years, mostly in rural areas.

Chief Justice Nisar observed that millions of rupees are spent on safe city projects, adding that there should be a firm belief that the killer will be caught as the court doesn't "want the suspect caught and killed in an encounter".

The chief justice summoned the police officer to his chamber for further hearing of the case.

Justice Nisar also stressed upon the progress of the emerging cognate cases. The suspect already had Six rape cases registered against him, The other suspect is his brother and similar cases are registered against him.

Following the incident, four videos have surfaced showing the minor girl being taken away by the culprit.

A day earlier, the police claimed to have arrested two alleged facilitators of the prime suspect in a raid carried out near Zainab's house in Kasur, but they have so far failed to nab the culprit involved in the felony.

Two people were killed in Kasur last week when police fired at hundreds of angry protesters, who said negligence on the part of the authorities was behind the repeated killings.
