Murder latest: Suspected 'crossbow killer' was victims' neighbour

It is believed to be Anthony Lawrence, 55, and was found in a vehicle on Sunday evening in North Yorkshire.

Police warned the public not to approach Anthony Lawrence, 55, whom they wanted to question about the suspected murder of Shane Gilmer, 30, and attempted murder of Laura Sugden at their home in Southburn, near Driffield, East Yorkshire.

Police believe they have found the body of a man suspected of killing a neighbour with a crossbow on Friday.

His blue Vauxhall Meriva has been located and officers put the village in lockdown and have been searching local woods.

"We have found a crossbow and we are examining it as a potential weapon".

Shane Gilmer, 30, has been named locally as the dad-of-three who was brutally murdered on Friday night. We are supporting Mr Gilmer's family during this hard and sad time.

Officers were called out at 9.20pm on Friday following reports a man and woman had been seriously injured in a disturbance at a property.

Gilmer died at Hull Royal Infirmary on Saturday, while the woman remains in a stable condition.

Police said the investigation to find the "person responsible is ongoing".

A vehicle linked to the suspect, a blue Vauxhall Meriva, was recovered and is being examined by forensic teams.

"I've never known a quieter village for something like this to happen in", said Chris King, 25.

What's really important to us is that we find Anthony Lawrence, who is also known as Tony Howarth, and bring him in safely.

Mr Parsons added: "At this point it is believed that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider public".

Anybody who catches sight of Mr Lawrence is being urged to call 999.
