Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane gets IPL contract, PM congratulates

Sandeep Lamichhane was not originally part of the long-list of 1122 players who had entered the IPL auction. This year, at IPL 2018 auction, another player from "Associate Nation" has become the first one to be picked from his country.

Surprisingly, Sandeep was compared to the world's renowned Australian spinner Shane Warne and was priced INR 2 million in the auction. Lamichhane was brought by Delhi Daredevils at his base price of 20 Lakhs.

"Lamichanne expressed his excitement on playing for an IPL franchise as well". Then, Lamichhane was 16 years old. "We're happy for Sandeep and Nepal". Special thanks to all those people who kept me in their prayers withholding their nerves! I will try my best to perform in every match I play. Getting an opportunity to play itself a big thing.

The leg-spinner first made an impact at the U-19 World Cup in 2016, where he claimed a hat-trick in Nepal's defeat of Ireland. This is awesome and good for Lamichhane and Nepali cricket as a whole. Cheer him on and enjoy the journey with him.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba congratulated the young cricketer for the achievement.

"It's very heartening", Dua said.
