Netanyahu leaves for Moscow to meet with Putin and discuss Syria, Iran

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu flew to Russian Federation on Monday morning for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

"We meet regularly to guarantee military coordination between our armed forces and the Russian forces in Syria", said Netanyahu on departure.

"I will discuss with President Putin Iran's relentless efforts to establish a military presence in Syria, which we strongly oppose and are also taking action against".

Ahead of his departure, Netanyahu said he meant to devote his five-hour visit to speaking with Putin about Iran's actions in the region.

Russian Federation has been the main military backer of the Syrian government in that country's multi-sided civil war for more than two years, a campaign it has billed as restoring stability. The assault has strained Turkey's relations with the USA, which backed the Syrian Democratic Forces-an umbrella group for mainly Kurdish fighters, including YPG units-in the successful effort to uproot the Islamic State from its former "capital" Raqqa.

Netanyahu's comments came a day after IDF spokesman Brig.

Speaking at his weekly cabinet session in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said that during his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Davos Economic Forum last Thursday, they "discussed the need to confront the Iranian aggression in the region and to face all of Iran's attempts to possess nuclear arms through the failed Nuclear deal".

Israel has always been lobbying the USA and Russian Federation, requesting them to avoid an Iranian foothold in Syria in the context of a possible peace agreement.

Damascus says Israel and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups operating inside the Arab country, while the Tel Aviv regime's military carries out such sporadic strikes against Syrian government forces.
