New York Knicks officially sign Trey Burke to contract

The New York Knicks announced Sunday they signed point guard Trey Burke.

The University of MI product will now join a point guard rotation that includes Jarrett Jack and rookie Frank Ntilikina as he attempts to provide the Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls with a spark off the pine.

That move has since been confirmed, with the organization welcoming Burke to the Knicks via the organization's official Twitter account. The point guard will wear No. 23.

Out of the University of Michigan, Burke was drafted with the 9th overall pick in the 2013 Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The pair helped lead the Wolverines to the 2013 NCAA National Championship Game.

It's clearly worth noting that, during that tremendous run, Burke shared the backcourt with current Knicks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr.

He ended up averaging 3.7 points in 13 games after signing with the Knicks in August.

The hope in NY appears to be that Hardaway can help Burke realize the potential that made him a lottery pick. Burke, who played this season for the Knicks' G League affiliate team, the Westchester Knicks, had been targeted by New York's front office for some time. He turned professional after two seasons at the University of MI where he was a college teammate of Tim Hardaway Jr.
