Nicole Kidman hails power of women during Golden Globes speech

"This character that I played [in Big Little Lies] represents something that is the centre of our conversation right now, abuse", Kidman continued. "I'm bringing this home to you babies", she told them on stage. In October, she gave a statement to People defining her thoughts on the wave of abuse allegations rocking Hollywood: "As I've stated before publicly, I support and applaud all women and these women who speak out against any abuse and misuse of power - be it domestic violence or sexual harassment in the workforce. Antonia Kidman, my sister, and I say thank you, Janelle Kidman, for what you fought for so hard".

She made headlines for her unusual clapping at the 2017 Academy Awards, and she memorably kissed her "Big Little Lies" co-star Alexander Skarsgard on the lips before accepting her Emmy.

"My achievements are her achievements", she added.

Their co-star Laura Dern won the award for supporting actress in a limited series. I urge all of us to not only support survivors and bystanders who are courageous enough to tell their truths, but to promote restorative justice.

Kidman is competing for Best Performance By an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television against one of her Big Little Lies co-stars, Reese Witherspoon; also nominated in the category are Jessica Biel, Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.

This year's awards are being unveiled against the backdrop of a massive sexual harassment and abuse scandal.

Sam Rockwell won the second prize of the night for best supporting actor in a movie for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, while Rachel Brosnahan won the best actress in a TV comedy prize for The Marvellous Mrs Maisel and Sterling K Brown won best actor in a TV drama series for his role in This Is Us.
