OnePlus confirms security breach with a staggering number of affected users

Nevertheless, if you believe you're at risk, our recommendations remain the same: Check your statements carefully and report anything suspicious to your card issuer. The Verge reports that the company is now working to launch a more secure credit card payment processing system before it re-enables standard payments, with hopes that this OnePlus credit card breach never happens again. The company says users who purchased items from its website between mid-November and January 11 stand at risk, though not if they used a credit card saved before that time or any of the PayPal-related payment options.

"We are deeply sorry to announce that we have indeed been attacked, and up to 40k users at oneplus.net may be affected by the incident". OnePlus says that as many as 40,000 of its customers were affected by the breach.

OnePlus does a pretty decent job in letting people know what happened in its latest blog update. The infected server has since been quarantined, but it's unclear how much damage the script did during the roughly two-month period, or how it evaded OnePlus' security in the first place.

The malicious script was injected into the OnePlus.net payment processing page, lifting credit card data-including number, the expiration date, and the verification code-from victims' browsers as it was entered. Payment cards already saved on the site and transactions via PayPal are thought to be unaffected.

Users who paid via the "Credit Card via PayPal" method should NOT be affected.

The cause of the breach was not immediately known, ZDNet reports.

Last week, we started hearing word of a potential security breach over at OnePlus.

If you've recently purchased a phone online through OnePlus using a credit card, it's advised that you keep an eye on your card and credit in order to avoid any surprises. You're nearly certainly off the hook for any fraudulent use as long as you report what you've seen in a reasonable timeframe. You can contact the OnePlus support team if you need further assistance.

OnePlus is still working on the situation from every angle, especially with implementing a more secure online storefront in the future.
