R&B artist Bruno Mars won the top prize at the Grammy Awards on Sunday in another victory for pop-driven music over rap, now the most popular genre in the United States.

Mars, Jay-Z, Lamar and Gambino are also nominated for record of the year but so too is Latin dance hit Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and featuring Justin Bieber. "And I think if we did that more often, a lot of these problems would be non-existent", she said.

Childish Gambino took home the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song "Redbone", but lost out on the Best Urban Contemporary Album to The Weeknd's "Starboy".

Louis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, who smashed all types of records past year with "Despacito", will be performing.

Janelle Monae may have provided one of the most memorable speeches as she took time to call out the Time's Up and #MeToo movements (which are working to end sexual harassment, sexual abuse and inequality in the workplace) during her introduction for Kesha's emotional performance of "Praying."

Recording artist Lady Gaga performs onstage during the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018 in New York City.

Following the performance, Grammys host Corben walked through the crowd to dish on the acts set to perform tonight.

The seven-time Grammy victor was later joined by U2's Bono and The Edge, who performed their parts of the song, before the screen flashed the words, "This is a satire by Kendrick Lamar". The music briefly cut out and Lamar stood illuminated by a single spotlight, a message blaring on the screen behind him: "This is a satire by Kendrick Lamar".

Noah also gave a shout out to rapper Jay-Z, who is himself involved in a weird feud with the president that began by appearing with Van Jones and taking issue with Trump's assertion that the unemployment rate for African Americans is an all-time low thanks to his policies.

Since James Corden will be hosting once again, we can probably expect his performance as a host to be just as entertaining as last year's.

When Lamar performed it at the 2016 Grammy Awards, along with his single "The Blacker the Berry", he started out in shackles as part of a chain gang and segued into a giant bonfire, all while powerfully rapping about the black experience in America. In between Lamar's song segments, comedian Dave Chappelle offered some unexpected commentary.

Before the performance, Maren Morris, Eric Church and Brothers Osborne performed an emotional rendition of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" - written after his son died - in honor of the 58 people who died at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas past year.

No category gets music lovers' dander up like best new artist and this year was no exception. The obvious front-runner, then, is Bruno Mars, who earned the third-most nominations behind Lamar and Jay-Z, showing he's clearly a favorite among voters. The 32-year-old musician picked up "Song of the Year" Grammy for 'That's What I Like'.

Lamar opened the 60th annual Grammy Awards with a jaw-dropping experimental medley consisting mostly of tracks from his universally acclaimed DAMN.

The late Leonard Cohen won a Grammy for his performance of "You Want it Darker".
