Pat Shurmur named NFL Assistant Coach of the Year

Shurmur is supposed to have a second Giants interview that finalizes the process and leads to his official hiring. They are intent on strictly adhering to National Football League rules that prohibit contact with the candidate, negotiation with an agent or any agreement after the initial interview window closed.

It's the second time in team history a Viking has won this award.

Shurmur's likely final game with Minnesota did not go well.

The Giants may not officially have a head coach yet, but other positions on the staff are starting to fall into place. Diggs said if OBJ strikes up a rapport with Shurmur, he'll laugh all the way to the bank.

A source told ESPN on Monday afternoon that Shurmur wants the Giants job.

Pat Shurmur will work with Eli Manning next season.

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum, left, speaks with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur during the second quarter against the Detroit Lions on October 1, 2017 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikes will reportedly consider former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo and former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

The focus on Shurmur began when Patricia, believed to be a favorite of the Giants, was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday to be the next coach of the Detroit Lions.

That offensive futility, along with Foles' dissection of the Vikings' heralded defense, contributed to 38 straight points by the Eagles in front of a rabid crowd.

The 52-year-old was the Cleveland Browns' head coach from 2011-12. He later returned to Philadelphia as Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator before landing with the Vikings.

McAdoo was sacked as Giants' head coach with four games to go in the regular season, and he was 13-15 over less than two seasons. Diggs has no issues envisioning that happening, because it's what Shurmur has done for him.

Del Rio was most recently the coach of the Raiders.

Shurmur had the interim tag removed this year, and coordinated a top-10 scoring offense mostly with Case Keenum under center. Chris Long hit Case Keenum's arm on a third down pass and the fluttering throw ended up in the arms of Eagles cornerback Patrick Robinson, who raced 50 yards for the touchdown.
