Pep has no complaints over city fixture pile-up

Manchester City swept aside second-tier Cardiff City 2-0 with first-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling on Sunday to reach the FA Cup fifth round in their quest to win an unprecedented four trophies this season.

Cardiff, on a day which saw them break the club record attendance at the Cardiff City Stadium, put in a very decent display and came close in the second half, but their FA Cup journey ends in the Fourth Round.

Guardiola marched up to the referee in the centre circle at the end of the game and left him in no uncertain terms what he felt about his decision not to send off Bennett for that tackle.

He completed 90 minutes for only the second time in two months, and Guardiola was delighted that Kompany had got through his latest comeback. "Minimum two, three weeks or a month, we will see tomorrow exactly".

'You have to protect the players, I do not understand the goal [being disallowed] but that I can accept, ' the City manager told BBC Sport.

"We are going to play the final at Wembley on Feb 25, and then play on Thursday against Arsenal in the Premier League".

Guardiola said: "That's why he's playing every time!" "They're so quick, that's the problem, with the movement and everything else, you think you're there and all of a sudden he's gone", he said of Bennett's foul on Sane.

"I can assure you that we are not the only team in the world that spends money".

All top teams must overcome physical intimidation at times to beat a more limited opponent, but Cardiff's approach in this game was a throwback to the bad old days when football was like the Wild West.

Eden Hazard of Chelsea and John Stones of Mancheste City battle for possession during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on September 30, 2017 in London, England. Pointing out that City strike pair Sergio Aguero and Gabby Jesus are smaller strikers, and yet they score goals.

Bennett was eventually sent off as the midfielder received a second yellow card for another challenge in the closing stages.

"All the managers are complaining about this - a lot of games, no recovery, a lot of injuries, but it's what it is", said Guardiola.

Eden Hazard is just one of a number of players growing frustrated under Antonio Conte and Chelsea's current form. "But there is one man, in black, he has to decide what is correct and incorrect".

"So we went to look for one player in the middle and we found that extra pass quite well".

Asked again on Sunday if City could claim the quadruuple he said: "No".

And ex-Cardiff defender Danny Gabbidon insisted: "Straight red".
