PLO Votes to Revoke Recognition of Israel

PLO Votes to Revoke Recognition of Israel

The Israeli army said dozens of Palestinians had thrown rocks at Israeli soldiers.

"We are committed to resolving the two states on the basis of global legitimacy, the Arab peace initiative, and the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders", he said. "To there we have to advance, with or without the Palestinians".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on a visit to India and didn't immediately respond to the PLO council's action.

Abbas referenced the deal and said that the Palestinian leadership had been offered Abu Dis, an East Jerusalem neighborhood they already control, as a potential capital.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas railed at US President Donald Trump in a fiery, two-hour-long speech on Sunday, saying "shame on you" for his treatment of the Palestinians and warning that he would have no problem rejecting what he suggested would be an unacceptable peace plan.

US ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley has also taken a hard line on funding, suggesting the USA would reduce its contributions to both the Palestinian Authority and the UNRWA, which administers humanitarian services to Palestinian refugees.

Both Trump appointees have been strong supporters of Israel, with Mr Friedman having backed Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

"We said "no" to Trump, 'we will not accept your project, '" the Palestinian president said. Palestinians, for their part, want to make the eastern part of the city the capital of their state.

"We can say no to anyone if things are related to our fate and our people, and now we have said no to Trump", he said.

"May God demolish your house".

Trump, whose Jerusalem decision previous year upset the Palestinians along with the announcing plans to move the U.S. Embassy to the holy city, was said by one official to have expressed cautious backing of the compromise.

In response to Abbas' comments, the European Union said its position on the conflict remains "based on the Oslo accords".

France, which organised an worldwide conference in support of the two-state solution a year ago, issued a similar reaction, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow "understands" Mr Abbas's anger.

"For years they made concessions without receiving anything in return", Lavrov said at an annual press conference in Moscow.

"We constantly hear that the USA is about to unveil an important deal that would satisfy all sides. We have not seen this kind of document".
