Renacci defends, Kasich condemns Trump's "s-hole" remark

Renacci defends, Kasich condemns Trump's

According to multiple news reports, during the meeting Trump asked "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" when referring to immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and Africa.

Renacci appeared on Fox & Friends Friday morning for an interview with host Brian Kilmeade who, to his credit, scolded the president for his reported comments earlier in the morning.

Renacci entered the Senate race after Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel abruptly left it for family reasons in part because he said he was urged to run by Trump aides. "I learned as a business guy that you have to be careful what you say because people pick everything up".

Renacci continued that Trump's comments can be explained by his being "a business guy going into a political career".

Renacci capped his defense of the president's racist remarks saying, "Look, I always say judge the president after four years". The businessman and former Wadsworth mayor earlier said he'd make that move if encouraged by President Donald Trump, who carried OH in 2016.

However, in September, Renacci said he was leaving Washington to run for governor back in OH because he was frustrated after six and one-half years, with numerous career politicians in the nation's capital. "Again, when the administration and the president is weighing in to get you into a race, it's something I believe I should do". "We look at things different", said Renacci. "We all make mistakes, but there's no excuse and when you do it you have to apologize". Renacci told Kilmeade Trump promised to help with his campaign, and that he thinks "a lot like the president". "I've been supportive of the president when I think he's been right and I've been opposed to him when I think he hasn't been right". I supported the president during the OH primary, which as you know was a hard situation back then knowing that Gov. Kasich was running as well.

"I have been a businessman for 30 years", said Renacci. "The fact remains that Mike Gibbons is far better positioned to defeat Sherrod Brown than any member of Congress".

"Jim believes that one of our nation's greatest strengths is that we are a proud nation of immigrants from all backgrounds, ethnicities and corners of the globe-a view Jim believes the president shares as well", Slepian said.
