Scott Alexander Headed to the Dodgers in Three Team Trade

Scott Alexander Headed to the Dodgers in Three Team Trade

In the midst of a fairly tame hot stove season, the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, and Los Angeles Dodgers have worked up a three-way trade.

As for Alexander, the 28-year-old worked 69 innings for KC last season and along the way put up an ERA+ of 181 with a 2.11 K/BB ratio, all while showing strong ground-ball tendencies.

Avilan was 2-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 61 games for L.A.

Peter, 24, was a seventh-round pick out of Creighton in 2014 and batted.279 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 120 games last season for Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. The Dodgers acquire a solid lefty reliever to replace Tony Watson, who became a free agent, and remain able to stay under the $197 million luxury tax threshold. After leaving the Royals, Soria pitched for the Rangers, Tigers and Pirates before returning to Kansas City ahead of the 2016 season.

Soria appeared in 59 games out of the bullpen for the Royals last season, posting a 4-3 record with 3.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and one save in 56 innings pitched. Peter has plated five different positions in the minors - second base, shortstop, third base and both corner outfield spots.

Mejia, 23, was signed by the Mariners as an worldwide free agent in June 2012, then sent to the Dodgers in the Joe Wieland trade in January 2016.

"This deal provides us with additional late-inning options as we look to solidify our bullpen", White Sox GM Rick Hahn in a statement released by the team. In addition, they sent pitching prospect Trevor Oaks and minor-league infielder Erick Mejia to the Royals.

Peter was named the Barons player of the year at the of the 2017 season.

Getting the Soria commitment off the books may allow the Royals to be more active on the free agent market, should they choose to go that direction.

Oaks is the highest rated asset in this deal; so much so that he could compete for a spot in spring training. Oaks, now 24, had his contract purchased by the Dodgers in advance of the Rule 5 Draft last month.
