Senators who didn't recall Trump using vulgarity backtrack

A top Republican senator blasted President Donald Trump's White House as "irrational" Tuesday, accusing them of wrecking a bipartisan immigration policy deal in a move that could risks forcing a government shutdown.

Dick Durbin (D-IL), who had denounced the President's closed-door remarks on immigration to a small group of lawmakers last Thursday. He was said to have used "s***hole" to describe some nations in Africa.

Trump was responding to a question about charges from his political opponents in the aftermath of recent remarks that he is a racist. "DACA is not dead", she said.

He also posted another tweet denying he had insulted Haitians, accusing Democrats of making it up.

Senator Dick Durbin of IL, the only Democrat at Thursday's meeting, said Mr Trump had indeed said what he was reported to have said.

Information from The Associated Press was used to supplement this report. "I am not a racist", Trump told reporters.

Coming out in partial defence of Trump was Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Trump has defended himself against accusations of being a racist on numerous occasions, including during his insistence that President Barack Obama was not American-born and after he opened his presidential campaign in 2015 by describing Mexicans as rapists and drug peddlers. "I stand behind every word that I said". "The conversation was very impassioned".

She did not address whether any variation of the word was used by Trump. (Some accounts have Trump using the S-word specifically for some African nations and adding the "Why do we want people from Haiti here?" immediately after).

David Perdue (Ga.) and Tom Cotton (Ark.) denied Trump had called the places "shithole countries" during an Oval Office meeting on immigration reform.

"The only thing I regret from all of this, other than I think some people have gone completely bonkers with just ad hominem on the president", Paul said, "but what I regret is I do want to see an immigration compromise".

In September, the Trump administration said it would end the program and in March 2018, DACA protected individuals would lose their protected status. "I'm the least racist person you will ever interview", he told reporters as he arrived at Trump International Golf Course in Florida late Sunday.

The president is also accused of saying he would rather admit immigrants from countries like Norway instead.
