Snow Possible, Dangerous Cold Likely

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northern counties in East Texas from Monday evening until Tuesday at 6 p.m.

KXAN's First Warning Weather Team is tracking what is likely to become the third major winter storm to occur in Central Texas this season. The majority will fall during the overnight hours.

Just in case it hasn't been cold enough, or there hasn't been enough snow to your liking thus far in 2018 in SC, this week's forecast could be heart warming for winter weather lovers. Bridges and overpasses will be especially prone to taking on ice through Tuesday.

In an unusual development, precipitation will linger behind the front allowing for a transition from rain to sleet/freezing rain to eventually some snow. Light snow is expected to develop late tonight and last through early Sunday afternoon, with light accumulation expected.

Accumulating snow is coming back to western MA during the middle of the week. However, these details are nearly guaranteed to change as the event gets underway. But the snow will quickly clear out by the afternoon, leaving us with gusty north winds and brutally cold temperatures for the rest of our Monday. Day began as a snowy day along the MA coast.

The advisory also warned residents to be prepared for reduced visibility at times. which could lead to travel difficulties.

The snow will move out Wednesday, but it will take a bit for temperatures to rebound. While this will be enough to glaze area roadways and bridges, it won't be enough to bring down power lines or trees.

Average snowfall amounts of 1-2 inches will be common with locally higher amounts possible.

A strong cold front is moving through the area.
