Student in speeding BMW mows down man in Delhi, arrested

A 19-year-old student from Delhi University has been arrested after he mowed down a 50-year-old man with his speeding BMW auto. Sahni was arrested on January 11 and later released on bail.

The CCTV footage of the incident has now been out.

The BMW was coming from Kamla Nagar market, when it hit Shiv Nath, who was crossing the road. It shows the BMW flinging the pedestrian several feet in the air.

Abhinav and his friends started in the BMW from Khalsa College to Kirori Mal, both colleges located in North Campus of Delhi University.

The student told the police that the victim had come in front of his vehicle from out of nowhere and so he could not apply the brakes in time, NDTV reported. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said. He added that accident left him scared and so he fled the spot. The accused, son of a businessman from Punjabi Bagh area of the national Capital, was tracked down after the police examined the CCTV footage and parts of the auto which were found at the spot. The CCTV footage shows the man running across to the divider when he sees the auto hurtling towards him but unfortunately gets hit. A few moments later, the red-colored BMW hits him.
