Telugu singer Ghazal Srinivas arrested for sexual harassment

Guinness World Record holder Kesiraju Srinivas, popularly known as "Ghazal Srinivas", was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexually harassing a woman employee of a private radio channel, managed by him.

Srinivas claimed that he had treated her like his own daughter.

A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the singer in Panjagutta police station in the city. "When she did not turn up one day, this woman volunteered to help", he maintained. He said, "Trust my words. I never harassed her". Following the complaint, the police conducted an initial investigation and arrested Ghazal Srinivas. The woman said Srinivas, who is popular for singing ghazals in Telugu, was harassing her for the last nine months, a police official said.

She alleged that the singer made her do his body massage.

In 2008, the name of Srinivas was registered in Guinness Book of World Records as in a single concert he sang over 100 songs in 76 languages in the presence of the then-President Pratibha Patil. He even appeared in the movie "A Film By Aravind". He worked as a librarian at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bhimavaram and Sainik School, Korukonda for a decade before quitting and starting as a Ghazal singer.
