Tiger Woods: Fan Screams During Putt, Infuriating Golfer at Farmers

Tiger Woods: Fan Screams During Putt, Infuriating Golfer at Farmers

Jason Day and Alex Noren are set for a Monday finish to determine the victor of the Farmers Insurance Open after bad light prevented the pair from completing their thrilling play-off.

They had to return Monday morning to decide a victor.

Noren, who entered the day in sole possession of the lead, had the best chance of winning the tournament in regulation.

Rod Pampling and Aaron Baddeley both missed the cut by one stroke after being even par through 36 holes, Matt Jones and Geoff Ogilvy were both well outside the number.

"Everything is shaping up nicely; I drove it great today which gave me a lot of opportunities, and then I putted well", said Day. "Hopefully I'll be around for the weekend, be able to compete and play and keep building", he added.

Day joked that they could have continued to play, that all that was needed was some vehicle headlights along the fairway. After kicking off in 69-70, Rose began T14, six back of leader Palmer. He escaped greenside bunkers on the 14th and 15th (both par-fours), and he got up and down with sand-wedge flop shots from the rough on the third and eighth (both par-threes).

Woods's final round on Sunday was up and down and included four birdies and four bogies.

Woods missed the cut in last year's Farmers Insurance Open, shooting a 4-over par 148 for two rounds, then underwent a fourth back surgery that sidelined him for the next 10 months. Woods shot a final-round 72.

But come Sunday, Woods admitted he was thinking of a score that might get him into a playoff.

Day and Noren each birdied the first two playoff holes - they played 18 both times - before both players shot par on the third playoff hole at 16. Get on the green, two-putt and walk away with a birdie.

After making his third birdie of the playoff in near darkness at the par-5 18th Day said he had no issue with returning to decide the title. Day knocked down the birdie putt and Noren did likewise before play was suspended.

Noren went next and hit his fairway metal over the green, into the tunnel below the TV tower and out the other side.

Noren did concede it could have brought the water in front of the green into play. I'm struggling with hitting certain shots. "I'm ready to make it a good year".

Cameron Davis endured a horror final round of 80 to tumble 33 places down the standnings for an eventual T58 finish.

The sixth hole of the playoff - between world no. 14 Day and world no. 19 Noren - will resume at 8 a.m.at the 18th hole on the south course at Torrey Pines. He had four birdies and four bogies on Sunday. "Tough conditions out there". "It's not the driver; it's just my swing", said Woods, 42, who had spinal fusion surgery in April.

"Very pleased", Woods said.

"I didn't hit it worth a darn all day".

Woods was worse than erratic off the tee, hitting just 17 fairways out of 56 all week. Joe LaCava, Woods' caddie, was most impressed with his boss's health and said there is plenty of good to build on going forward. "There are many things that I'm going to have to learn and I need more time under the fire of competition".

Spanish defending champion Jon Rahm double-bogeyed the last to fall four behind. He shot 75 on Saturday.

Smith was at less than his best for much of the week but in hard scoring conditions his even par final round was enough to move him 11 places up the standings.
