Trump campaign ad calls Democrats 'complicit' in killings by undocumented immigrants

On Sunday's "Meet the Press", White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short defended the president's re-election ad (for 2020) blaming Democrats for the government shutdown and accusing them of being complicit in murder.

President Trump bashed Democrats after the failed vote, saying that they wanted "unchecked illegal immigration."

The 30-second ad, debuted on YouTube and titled "Complicit", used footage from the ongoing trial of Luis Bracamontes, an unauthorized immigrant accused of killing two northern California deputies.

"Now Democrats who stand in our way will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants", the narrator says.

Michael Glassner, the executive director of Trump's reelection campaign committee, said the ad was meant to highlight "the stark contrast between "complicit" Democrats and the President for his full commitment to build a wall and fix our border to protect Americans from drugs, murder and other atrocities".

"I'm Donald Trump", the ad ends, "and I approve this message".

The ad was released after Senate Democrats opposed a short-term spending bill to keep the government from shutting down.

The president has previously signaled he is open to a fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program after rescinding it past year, but attacked Democrats for refusing to get behind increased border security in exchange to secure votes for the spending bill.

Democrats want a deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which Trump announced in September he would be ending March 5.

Short said people should look at the "basis of that ad" and the threat the White House is trying to address on the matter.

"I wish I f***ing killed more of those motherf***ers", said Mr. Bracamontes during Tuesday's proceedings.

"President Trump is right".
