Trump Tweeted Support For The Women's Marches. It Backfired

Mayor Bill de Blasio's office said at least 200,000 people marched.

The 2017 Women's March in the capital drew over 500,000 people. Murphy said she was walking along a path when a man grabbed her and pulled her into the bushes.

She said her attacker tried to stop her screaming by gagging her with a dirty crab apple he found nearby.

Ms Portman applauded the marchers who attended the protest as she opened the event while Eva Longoria and Constance Wu stood by her side. "I wonder how women who received such violence would find the courage to come out as I did, when they saw what happened to me, so I am here to assess the necessity of women to speak out and change things".

The marches will be followed by more events on Sunday, including in Las Vegas, a key battleground state in the 2018 midterm congressional elections. Other victims of sexual assault shared their stories.

The rallies were similar to the marches soon after Trump's inauguration as president a year ago.

"I think previous year was that watershed moment of President Trump's election", Melbourne organiser Melissa Goffin told AAP.

As crowds protested his policies, Trump, on Twitter, tweeted, "Beautiful weather all over our great country, a ideal day for all Women to March".

The president took to Twitter to ask women to celebrate the "historic milestones and unprecedented economic success" of the a year ago. "Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!" he continued, as he chose not to acknowledge the fact that the Women's March is a protest against his policies, and not a celebration of his claims of "economic success".

"Women's March has created a powerful movement that has ignited thousands of activists and new leaders", Tamika D. Mallory, co-president of Women's March, said in a statement. "Those are values that not only Jewish people hold, but they are distinctly Jewish values and they are the ones that propel us to come out on a day like today and they are also the ones that propel us to do our work on a daily basis".

Other signs were just as attractive as they were powerful.

Boyd says that while the march wasn't focused on one issue like the Women's March in Washington, D.C., the sentiment and the concerns are the same, "if not higher", she added.

The March for Impeachment in downtown Portland Saturday was a family affair.

"We can not whitewash it anymore", Reiner said.

Hundreds also took part in Brisbane's CBD carrying signs and chanting. A group of women wearing red cloaks and white hats like the characters in the book and TV show "The Handmaid's Tale" marched in formation, their heads bowed.

"I had a choice of taking a longer path that was well lit or a shorter, brick walkway that was slightly in the shadows", said the New Jersey first lady.

When asked whether she is going to run for office, she said she's not against the idea.
