Two people killed, three trapped in horrific multi-vehicle crash near Dubbo

The tragic incident unfolded just after midday on the Newell Highway, north of Dubbo.

It is believed four cars, a B-double and utility were stopped at a road works site when they were hit from behind by the semi-trailer.

Two people have died and it is estimated that at least three others remain trapped after a serious multi-vehicle crash north of Dubbo.

Conditions and ages of the people involved are not known at this stage.

The truck driver is suffering leg and pelvic injuries.

"The scene is still being processed", Superintendent McKenna said.

'It is another tragedy that I hope isn't repeated in the near future'.

Emergency services were called to the location about 12.30pm (Tuesday 16 January 2018) after reports of a collision involving two trucks and four cars.

Earlier, Ambulance NSW Superintendent Kathy Golledge described the scene as "absolute carnage".

"One auto is believed to be completely crushed under a truck", said NSW Ambulance superintendent Kathy Golledge.

This has been the third major truck crash on NSW roads in the past two days.

'It is an absolute horror... One bloke just told me "you don't wanna go down there".

The Newell Highway is closed in both directions.

"We are awaiting on specialist police from the New South Wales Police crash investigations unit to come from both Sydney and Bathurst to continue the investigation as will our specialist crime scene police and detectives assisting".
