Which gadgets are getting everyone excited at major tech exhibition?

Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association, CES is hosted in Las Vegas and features 3,900 exhibitors showing off their newest consumer technologies.

Update 6:39pm CT, Jan. 10: The CES blackout was caused by "condensation from heavy rainfall" on a transformer at the Las Vegas Convention Center, convention authorities said in a statement Wednesday.

As Bloomberg notes, even with all the next-level technology present at the CES, it would seem that the event was still not safe from the enemy of all electronics: a blackout. For an event that showcases the latest and greatest of technological advances, a power outage is all it takes to bring all of it down to earth.

The CES event draws tech companies from all over the world.

Sudden record-breaking downpours on Day One of CES was the first rain for Las Vegas in 116 days, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. This resulted in attendees getting led out of the affected areas until power could be restored.

The Consumer Electronics Show lost its electrics shortly after 6am AEDT time, during the show's busiest hours, shutting down parts of the Las Vegas Convention Centre, including Central Hall where the show's biggest exhibits are located. A company with a smart sleep device called Aromarest began an email pitch by saying, "Having the lights go out, as they did today at CES, is one way to get some sleep". Despite this, many have noted that power outage and the weather were not the only problems of CES 2018.

Companies affected by the outage included LG, Samsung and Sony, The Verge reports, along with tech start-up firms that "paid thousands of dollars to have a presence on the massive show floor".

And in a sign of the huge energy draw from the tech show, once the crowds were let back in, the return to full, blazing electronic glory was slow. For more than an hour, the organizers reassured the waiting fans that the issue was being addressed as quickly as possible and that entrance will be restricted until the power is restored. Folks still leaving Central Hall and not let in.
