Who's to blame for shutdown? DNC media takes aim at Stephen Miller

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday appeared to echo the reporting from the Times when he attacked Miller for standing in the way of a deal. "As long as Stephen Miller is in charge of negotiating immigration, we're going nowhere", Graham said to a group of reporters, adding, "the White House staff, I think, is making it very hard".

Miller's role in placing a Semtex charge under the tenuous DACA deal at the heart of this budget frenzy is a sign of his overwhelming power in this White House.

Graham pointed the finger specifically at White House Senior Adviser Stephen Miller, who holds extreme views on immigration. "He's been an outlier for years".

NBC News reported that a Friday conversation between President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, with hopes of reaching a deal to avert a shutdown, was partially derailed by Miller, who pushed Trump away from an immigration compromise. Jeff Sessions against the "Gang of Eight" group of senators that tried to pass comprehensive immigration reform in 2013. Miller is President Donald Trump's senior advisor for policy and is credited with writing numerous president's speeches, while pushing him ever more to the right.

"I'm convinced that to continue the government shutdown - after this proposal - does more harm than good to our effort to find common ground", he said in a statement.

It's certainly not the first time the charge has been made.

"So what does the White House staff do a couple of days later?"

"Every time we have a proposal it is only yanked back by staff members", Mr Graham lamented, adding that though he does "enjoy working with them", White House staff like Mr Miller are "making it very hard".

'And we're never going to get there as long as we embrace concepts that can not possibly get 60 votes.

'Stephen's not here to push his agenda, ' she said.

"As long as Sen".

'We " re doing our best to carry out what the president has laid out and to implement and communicate his principles, and Stephen's no different on that front that any of the rest of us'. "He's been an outlier for years".

"Not only do they not consult us, they can't even get on the same page as their president - the president from their own party".

During the on-camera White House meeting on DACA, Graham repeatedly urged Trump to become a pro-amnesty president despite criticism from conservative media.
