Zach LaVine eager to embrace excitement of long-awaited Bulls debut

Zach LaVine suits up Sunday (AEDT) for the Bulls, nearly a year after knee surgery to fix a torn ACL suffered while still a member of the Wolves. After working his way open behind the 3-point line, LaVine took a pass from Kris Dunn and didn't hesitate to shoot.

In a free-flowing offensive game marked by very few fouls - a combined eight in the first half and 22 for the game - the Pistons fed the Bulls 14 turnovers converted into 23 points.

LaVine has not seen action since a year ago, when he suffered a torn ACL back as part of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LaVine was making his Bulls debut after being acquired from Minnesota in the Jimmy Butler trade.

LaVine not only started, he was the last Bulls player introduced to thunderous applause. After all, LaVine is just 22, and is just a year removed from averaging a career-high 18.9 points on 45.9 field goal shooting percentage to go with 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

Bulls: Connected on 17 3-point tries to match the franchise record with a seventh consecutive game with at least 10 3-pointers made.

LaVine scored 14 points in his first game in 11 months, rookie Lauri Marrkanen added 19 points and the Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 107-105 on Saturday night.

I'm a big believer in defense wins you games.

"It's the last hurdle to clear for Zach to clear in this process", coach Fred Hoiberg said. He has that swagger about him that I just love. Zach LaVine (knee) was on a strict minute-limit and he sat out the fourth quarter, with Nwaba playing all 12 minutes, so that artificially inflated his playing time. Chicago made its first six tries from beyond the arc, including all three by Markkanen, to equal the previous stretch from March 21-April 2, 2017. He played the first 6:58 of the second before sitting until halftime and then 8:09 of the third over two stints, ending his night as LaVine's return went to plan. "I met with all the different players this will affect in the rotation".
