Amal Clooney salutes young March for Our Lives activists

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a gunman opened fire and killed 17 people last week (14Feb18), are behind the Washington, D.C, protest, aimed at forcing politicians to drastically change gun laws in the US, and Amal admits she's very impressed by the movement they have created in a week.

The "March for Our Lives" is scheduled to take place on March 24, with sister rallies planned across the country demanding that US Congress come up with effective legislation to address the epidemic of gun violence in the United States.

George Clooney's wife Amal has heaped praise on the students driving the upcoming March For Our Lives protest, insisting they are America's "best hope for change".

"Amal and I wanted to add our voice (and financial assistance) to the ongoing fight for equality", George Clooney said at the time.

Hours later, veteran studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg and his wife Marilyn also announced a $500,000 donation, according to Variety.

The Clooneys pledged $500,000 in their children's names, Ella and Alexander, saying that they are inspired by the courage of the students who started the movement.

The Clooneys, who will attend the demonstration in Washington DC next month, said they were making the donation in the name of their young twins, because "our children's lives depend on it".

A 19-year-old former student, Nikolas Cruz, is accused of carrying out the shooting with a semi-automatic AR-15-style assault rifle at the school a week ago. Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw have called the students "an inspiration to us all" and commended their efforts "to take a stand for the benefit of this and future generations". "I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to 'March For Our Lives, '" Oprah said on Twitter Tuesday evening.
