Android Messages app could soon let users text from web

Android Messages app, which is a free texting app by Google, could let users send and receive message through their desktop or laptop. Internally named "Ditto", the messages for web feature will work similar to how Google Allo or WhatsApp functions.

Android Messages is Google's default messaging app on the Nexus and Pixel smartphones.

The last but not least feature of Android SMS which is still not identified properly might be business transactions through your Android Messages; this feature will allow transactions and payment requests through the phone.

Android Messages users will be able to pair their smartphone to their laptop or desktop by scanning a QR code. When you are ready to connect to a browser, you access the URL for the online Android Messages experience, it brings up a QR code to scan, and then you scan that within Android Messages on your phone to connect the two.

The teardown reveals that you will be able to see a list of signed in computers and disconnect from them at any point in time. It will link with the phone to do the actual SMS/MMS/RCS communication through your network provider. Now, it is unclear whether Google is going for a proprietary implementation or it has found to way to skirt the carriers in RCS (Rich Communication Services) itself.

However, RCS's adoption depends on network carriers using it and making it compatible, which is why it isn't prevalent.

The leak comes from a code in the latest Android Messages update version 2.9 which suggests Messages for Web. You will be prompted to "text over Wi-Fi" via RCS.

Or, Google may be creating a messaging app that can do the same as iMessage and WhatsApp and essentially replace SMS. All the computers that you connected to will be displayed in your app just like Whatsapp Web feature.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, is an American multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Mountain View, California.

The updated version could make the messaging service a hub for purchases.

But in the lead up to the formation of Alphabet, stock prices surged to $699.62 on July 17, 2015 - an increase of 28.45%.

However, the company's so-called Other Bets saw revenues rise from $262 million (£183m) previous year to $409 million (£286m) in the last quarter.
