BMW Reveals M4 Convertible Edition 30 Years

It is officially called BMW M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre, and only 300 units will be produced, just in time for the hot summer ahead.

Unlike the original M3 which was light and small, the cult auto has grown into the M4 two-door while the current M3 serves as a more family-friendly sedan.

Changes for the special edition include a choice of two body colours, with Macao Blue paying tribute to the colour available on the original model released in 1988, and Frozen Dark Grey, which is exclusive to United Kingdom buyers. For starters, it gets the 450-hp version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, an M Sport exhaust system, adaptive M suspension with specific Sport mode, and "an extremely sporty configuration" of the stability control system DSC and the Active M differential.

Both receive matching interior trims with either Fjord blue or Silverstone grey ascents on Marino leather seats and additional yellow contrasting stitching is an option.

Setting the 30 Years apart from the regular M4 Convertible are the high-gloss black trim pieces around the grille, side-vents and badges.

Inside, there's full Merino leather trim available in two-tone colour schemes created to match the exterior colour. The potent convertible rides on model-exclusive 20-inch wheels finished in matte Orbit Grey.

A spokesperson told MOTOR to expect the M4 Convertible 30 Years to be available in the second half of 2018. No pricing details have been revealed yet, and it isn't known if the limited edition convertible will be sold in the US. All models will be decked out in carbon fibre as standard, and the "30 Jahre Edition" legend appears on the door sills and headrests. There's also a "1/300" plaque to remind of the car's limited availability.
