'Drunk' man slapping stranger's two-year-old child caught on supermarket CCTV

'Drunk' man slapping stranger's two-year-old child caught on supermarket CCTV

A drunk man was arrested in a Georgia grocery store on Tuesday after allegedly spanking a stranger's toddler son when he heard him whining that he was not allowed a candy bar.

James Morris was shopping with his 2-year-old son, when his son asked for a candy bar. Morris said he replied, "We are not in Mexico".

Morris called police who responded to the store to question Juan Guvarra Martinez, 62.

Once they were finished checking out, Morris sent his family to wait in the vehicle while police began talking with Martinez who was still in line waiting to check out.

"That's my son and at the end of the day, I'll discipline him how I believe he needs to be disciplined", said Morris. "I was blown away by the situation".

In response, Morris said, "Well, this isn't Mexico". The child stopped crying and was in shock, he said.

Officers reportedly noticed slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from him.

Officers said Martinez began using profanity in front of employees and customers before he was removed from the store.

"He really just seemed astonished that this guy chose to spank him", Morris said. His combativeness continued after he was arrested and put in the squad auto, where he began kicking the doors and windows. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was medically cleared, and then booked into the county jail on charges of cruelty to children, obstruction of officers, battery and disorderly conduct.
